Combining backstage segments with actual live-to-tape talk show segments, The Ellen Hill Show follows the exploits of the host and her staff. In the pilot episode, Ellen wants to change the direction of the show; the station wants to cancel it altogether. As Ellen tries to save her dreams and her career, her estranged mother pops in to announce her cancer diagnosis.
